WHAT? When Forms Come Alive - Sixty Years of Restless Sculpture

WHERE? Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX

WHEN? Now until 6th May

WHY GO? For good vibrations.  Echoing images of life on another planet, this is one big trippy adventure!  Even the exhibition title sounds out of this world, forms coming alive!

What exactly does that mean?  It means artists have shaped, moulded, built and formed sculptures that feel mobile in one way or another, whether it’s by creating arty vibes with a roller coaster or transforming sparkly discs into a Sci-fi inspired molecular pile-up.

Every art exhibit flows, hangs or sways representing fluidity and motion and is a playful look at how we interpret sculpture.

From a cluster of mesmerising silk Shylights that cascade gracefully from the ceiling upon arrival, to a whole room filled with squashy pink tubes by Eva Fabregas upon departure, it’s all a whirl of fantasy.

Some twenty-one international artists have embraced the dynamics of movement filling every inch of gallery space and the result is a visual treat for enthusiastic instagrammers.

Inspiring, intoxicating, it’s a magical playground for kids to explore, just make sure they don’t  scoop up the effervescent foam ‘sculpture’ by mistake, it’s the showstopper if ever there was one, by French artist Michel Blazy!

IN THE KNOW How does an artist start their creative process, let alone dream up some of the whacky installations on show?  The Hayward Gallery’s director discusses a range of multifaceted themes with three of the artists on show.

The, When Forms Come Alive: Artists’ Talk, is on Sunday 3rd March, tickets available online.
