WHAT?  The Paradisical Pictures

WHERE?  The Gilbert & George Centre, 5a Heneage Street, London E1 5LJ

WHEN?  Ongoing, free to view

WHY GO?  To be blown away by the fantastical world of Gilbert & George who refer to themselves as ‘living sculptures’ and by their passion in creating a visionary new gallery space to house their work permanentlyConverted from a former brewery off Brick Lane, it’s an architectural feat honouring the area’s historical past, just a stroll away from their famous Fournier Street base.

This dedicated gallery on three levels, is free for all to fully immerse themselves in Gilbert & George’s conceptual controversial art and opens with ‘The Paradisical Pictures’, which are anything but heavenly!

These are mythical, almost psychedelic pictures with cheeky titles that take creativity to a whole new level. “Our art is the friendship formed between the viewer and the pictures”, they say, and with that in mind, paradise is what you make of it!

IN THE KNOW:  For more Gilbert & George, The Corpsing Pictures at The White Cube coincides with the gallery launch. These arresting images of them ‘corpsing’ amid the detritus of old bones might seem a tad overwhelming but it’s impossible not to marvel at their mystical imagination.

At Mason’s Yard until 20th May.
