WHAT?  REBEL: 30 Years of London Fashion

WHERE?  The Design Museum, 224-238 Kensington High Street, London W8 6AG

WHEN? Now until 11th February 2024

WHY GO? To feel the force of fashion.  London designers have always shown a rebellious streak, from Mary Quant’s mini to Molly Goddard’s blue ruffle dress, that went viral on Instagram when worn by Rihanna in 2017.

No one rocked convention more than Alexander McQueen when he debuted in 1993, and the story of his first collection, along with countless other rebellious designers sits centre stage in this dazzling exhibition that honours 30 years of London design talent.

With the support of the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN initiative, launched in 1993, the likes of Molly Goddard, Erdem and Christoper Kane are now international names.  They offered guidance when it mattered most along with tutors from some of the best Art Colleges in the world.

This dazzling exhibition proves that fashion is not the flaky whimsical world so often portrayed, but one where hard work, talent and creativity go hand in hand.

It recreates the timeline of how a design originates from the initial sketch to being in the spotlight on the catwalk, with thrills and frills along the way!

IN THE KNOW Guest curated by Sarah Mower MBE, the BFC’s Ambassador for Emerging Talent and Rebecca Lewin, the Design Museum’s Senior Curator, this talented collaboration endorses the exhibition’s credentials as a landmark show for recognising and nurturing designers.
