CATHERALL

Paul Catherall, Commonwealth Institute, 2022. Now the Design Museum

WHAT? Paul Catherall - This Was Tomorrow

WHERE? Eames Fine Art, 58 Bermondsey Street, London SE1 3UD

WHEN? Now until 18th June

WHY GO? To rekindle the past.  Printmaker and illustrator Paul Catherall has made a name for himself recording architectural landmarks, especially those that are unfortunately no longer with us or have been brutally destroyed.

His sharp linocuts are edgy, powerful and very collectable to purchase, for they are affordable.

Described as the ‘poster boy’ for preserving the artistic legacy of Brutalist architecture, he grew up in Coventry where sadly he saw many favourite childhood haunts felled as new estates and shopping centres popped up.  Favoured commercially for his graphic talents, Catherall has designed numerous eye-catching Transport for London posters and has injected his unique style into recreating masterful images of London landmarks we know and love like the Southbank Centre, Tate Modern and St. Paul's Cathedral.

This new solo show celebrates his love of post-war architecture and pays homage to buildings that hark back to a time when serving the community came before commerce.

IN THE KNOW  Eames Fine Art also represents political supremo/artist Andrew Marr and is currently showing a new body of work in his third solo exhibition at the gallery.  Aptly entitled, Andrew Marr/New Work, the colourful abstract artworks are full of vitality, pure escapism from the grey daily world of politics!

On until 11th June.
