WHAT? Civilization: The Way we Live Now

WHERE? Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York’s Square, Kings Road, London SW3 4SQ

WHEN? Now until 17th September

WHY GO? For a multi-faceted portrait of life today.  This picturesque journey captures the complexities of life told through the lenses of 150 cameras.  It invites us to question how we relate to our environment, to each other and how we embrace the digital age.

Photographers from all over the world have contributed stunning images that reflect our innovations and conversely, our destructive mistakes.

They have snapped away in schools, banks, and government buildings, both inside and out, up mountains and down rivers, covering global issues that affect humankind.

Images portray different cultures, politics, religions and new tech developments whilst urging us to appreciate and respect the beauty of our planet.

It might all sound a tad worthy, but it’s worth focusing on what photographers see on their travels and glean the benefit of their research, sometimes achieved under chillingly dangerous circumstances, as we go about our daily lives.

IN THE KNOW

Many of the 150 photographers on show have won prestigious Awards and exhibited around the world, names like Edward Burtynsky, famous for his industrial landscapes or Lauren Greenfield, who documents youth culture; others are emerging talents and names to watch for the future.
