CAPTURING

THE MOMENT

WHAT? Capturing the Moment: A Journey through Painting and Photography

WHERE? Tate Modern, Bankside, London SE1 9TG

WHEN? Now until 28th January 2024

WHY GO? For a hyper art fix. Is it a painting or is it a photograph? It can be both and this bumper exhibition explores how each art form can influence each other.  It’s a marathon undertaking to analyse verbally but there are famous names, epic paintings and iconic photographs that can be enjoyed on their own merit alongside some that cement the comparisons, like David Hockney’s iconic poolside paintings that were so obviously influenced by his Polaroids of pools and sunny Californian summers.

The relationship between these two art forms has never been more transparent and undoubtedly each deserves equal credit as boundaries are blurred.

Many of the photographs truly do capture a special moment in time, none more poignant than the American documentary photographer Dorothea Lange’s iconic image of an immigrant mother during the Great Depression.

This magnificent exhibition offers a rare chance to see some of the most famous contemporary works of art, not to be missed!

IN THE KNOW The exhibition exists in collaboration with loans from the YAGEO Foundation, Taiwan, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Pierre Chen in 1999.

Check online for guided exhibition tours, running from the end of July to the end of January 2024.
