ALICE IRWIN

CHINWAG

WHAT? Alice Irwin: Chinwag

WHERE? Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, Ealing Green, London W5 5EQ

WHEN? Now until 28th April.  Check opening hours.

WHY GO?  For the fun of it!  See three exhibitions for the price of one entry ticket in this magnificent gallery, each appealing to different aesthetics.

First up, award winning artist Irwin presents her playful ‘Peeps’ figures that the whole family will love.

Visitors are invited to meet her cast of colourful sculpted characters ‘chin wagging’ as they dot throughout the gallery.

Resembling giant chess pieces, they are joyfully child-like, and for inquisitive minds that are curious about her thought process, her screen prints and graphic studies that inspired them are shown alongside.

For architectural buffs, Sinta Tantra: The Nightclub of Batavia is a display of stylish, geometric paintings that shimmer reflecting the glorious neo-classical elegance of Pitzhanger.

Finally, for fashionistas, Echos & Idioms features the work of photographer Tim-Bret Day, famed for his portraiture of celebs like Kate Moss and Grace Jones and one of the top names in the glossy world of fashion.

And that’s just for starters, there’s a whole park outside the gallery to explore, plus Bella Puglia Cafe and Pitzhanger Pantry to take a coffee break in after.

IN THE KNOW Fancy hanging out in the gallery a little longer? Check online for evening events that include artists’ talks.  Next up, to coincide with Chinwag on 22nd February, Alice Irwin will be interviewed by Art critic Thomas Marks about her role as an artist and what inspired her imaginary sculptures.
