WHAT?  Now You See Us - Women Artists in Britain 1520-1920

WHERE?  Tate Britain, Linbury Galleries, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG

WHEN?  Now until 13th October

WHY GO?  To feel the love.  There’s never been more of a focus on pioneering women artists and their struggle for recognition in a world that was predominantly male.

Hot on the heels of an exhibition in Bath showcasing Gwen John and the recent Tate Britain bonanza of female movers and shakers in Art and Activism, this is a proud push to further celebrate the talents of women artists working in Britain during a specific time frame.

This allows for names we know and love like Artemisia Gentileschi, Angelica Kauffman and Vanessa Bell to be seen alongside names we are less familiar with, like Mary Knowles and Mary Moser so that everyone can have their moment of fame and glory.

There are so many surprises, such as artist Anna Airy who captured images of women behind the scenes during the First World War at work in munitions factories and feminist Henrietta Rae whose nudes sparked controversy in staid Victorian Britain.

Women painting female nudes make quite an impact throughout from depicting them in classical scenarios or as abstract images.

Talent, ambition and confidence shines through this whole curation of artistic sisters.  It's a joy to discover so many wonderful women who paved the way for today’s talents that are hovering on the brink of breaking through.

IN THE KNOW  Make a day of women in art behind the canvas too!  There’s still time to see Tate Britain’s stunning Sargent and Fashion blockbuster which closes on 7th July.

If you really want to linger, book a quieter viewing time away from the crowds - see website for details.
