WHY GO? To share a love of art. When your dad is the celebrated Damien Hirst, it’s a no-brainer that Connor his son will have inherited some of those creative genes. And he has and puts them to good use by curating a mind blowing exhibition in his dad’s stunning gallery from his even more stunning private art collection.
His caring, sharing attitude is to be applauded, for the gallery is free to visit and there is always an intriguing art exhibition on show to enjoy.
Think of a contemporary artist and sure enough, there will be a work of art on show. From Banksy to Baselitz, from Tracey Emin to Gavin Turk and even from the provocative genius Hirst himself. Amongst the highlights are Francis Bacon’s Fury, 1944 and Banksy’s Madonna and Child, 2003.
All eighty artworks are displayed across all six galleries and they are a joy to behold for their sheer variety, endorsing the skilful curation of Connor Hirst, guided and abetted undoubtedly by dad.
Keeping it in the family is to be congratulated when there is an opportunity to see such a magnificent private collection without paying a penny towards the privilege.
IN THE KNOW Damien Hirst is reportedly one of the richest living artists and has accumulated a formidable personal art collection.
He realised a dream to share his love of art when he opened the Newport Street Gallery in 2015 and hosts open house opening events for anyone to attend.
