THE EDIT

GLOW FOR IT

Soft and slouchy or super sparkly… there are two ways to shimmy out in those sequins. Go low key with an embellished jumper over a strappy dress or take the roof off with an outrageous all in one. The key to getting it right… one show-stopping piece is more than enough. If you’re ever in doubt… simply wear it with a black roll neck.

ON REFLECTION

Give your outfit the edge with a sheeny, shiny finish. A simple cami and wide satin trousers, an over-embellished dress with a plunging neckline or some easy slip-me-on-slides that will give you serious street cred. It’s time to mix your daywear with a little bit of disco. It’s nearly Christmas after all…

THE EXTRAS

SKY’S THE LIMIT

Raise your party game with a serious pair of heels. A sexy dress calls for strappy styles, or sling on some points with your tuxedo pants. Or if you’ve got glittery versions, you can even sneak some socks underneath. The golden rule of getting it right…? No pain, no gain.

Now step to it!

 LOOKS YOU’LL LOVE

let it shine

It doesn’t matter what you wear to the party as long as the details are right. Keep your look simple, but let your jewellery shout from the rooftops. Oversized earrings are still stealing the show… make them your party piece and the rest will follow.

marie shares her expert tips on how to shop

Running in and around London constantly, looking stylish and feeling comfortable is key. I love layers and like to team a good pair of Paige skinny jeans with a t-shirt or denim shirt, adding a smart jumper on top.

I love the femininity of heels but tend to save them for evening. You’ll find me in tennis shoes or flats mostly during the day.

If you fall in love with it, buy it regardless of whether it’s on sale. You’ll wear it over and over again and it will be worth every penny. If you just like it and it happens to be on sale, don’t buy it. It will sit in your closet after one wear and end up on another landfill.

Buy quality over quantity. Recent stats suggest we only wear about 20% of our wardrobe on a daily basis.

Reselling, recycling and restyling your wardrobe has never been easier, with major high street brands supporting redistribution of preloved items for you.

IN THE KNOW

THE MONARCH OF THE GLEN

THE NATIONAL GALLERY, TRAFALGAR SQUARE, LONDON WC2

29th November - 3rd February 2019

It’s back in London for the first time since 1983, so grab the chance to feast your eyes on, arguably, the most recognisable painting of any animal, Edwin Landseer’s “Monarch of the Glen”.

He may have adorned many a biscuit tin and countless whisky bottles, but nothing can prepare you for the sheer majesty of seeing this famous Landseer painting up close and personal in Trafalgar Square, a setting that was close to his heart. Queen Victoria loved him, and 14 of his other works are on show and reveal how skilled an artist he was at bringing animals to life .

If you thought you were already feeling festive, wait until it coaxes you into donning wellies to stalk the Highlands on a misty Christmas morning... with or without that whisky.
