VICTORIA: WOMAN AND CROWN

VICTORIA: A ROYAL CHILDHOOD

Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens, London, W8 4PX

from 24th May

The bicentenary anniversary of Queen Victoria is being celebrated everywhere but nothing could be grander than popping down to the Palace where she was actually born and peeping into the very rooms she roamed about as a girl until that historic day when “she went to bed a princess and woke up a queen”, at the age of eighteen.

There are two exhibitions for your one entrance ticket. One majoring on her childhood and the other, exploring what made her tick.  With rare bits of her wardrobe on display, like the sexy silver boots that surely jazzed up those stark black dresses, it provides endless fascination.

Sparking historic curiosity, will be a scrapbook, created by her German governess Baroness Lehzen, on show for the first time.  Not only does it explore her relationship with Albert but also her complex relationship with India, the continent she loved but never actually visited despite being declared Empress.

Enjoy a real family outing with plenty to keep the kids amused and when you’ve had enough glamour and glitz, stroll over to the famed Sunken Garden or take tea in the traditional Kensington Palace Pavilion.  And, if that’s not enough, there’s also an entertaining evening with Jenna Coleman, ITV’s own Victoria, who reads from the famed diaries on 9th June!
