BEST IN THE BUSINESS

MOTHER - MODEL - BLOGGER

Louise is a mother of 2 boys, living in London. She is also an international fashion model, living out of a suitcase. Loving both occupations she has been blessed with - both equally hard work - but chalk and cheese in comparison. One day she is scrubbing the bathroom floor cleaning up after her family and the next she is shooting a fashion story in Italy.

Her modelling career started over 20 years ago when she was 14 years old with zero self confidence and an eating disorder.  Today she is 37 years old, size 14 and feels better than ever and securing modelling contracts such as Max Factor and others, which she was told would never happen at her age or size.  Her spirit and determination for other women to feel good about themselves, whatever their age, size or profession, manifested into a blog called ‘Mama Still Got It’.

Over the years working as a model, her love for skincare, well-being, fashion and cosmetics has been a passion that has evolved, as she has too. ‘Mama Still Got It’ is a blog written for mothers, but read by women.

“It’s the hardest job in the world, and it’s not to be underestimated.  Sometimes women can lose their identity when they become a mother.  We can almost become categorised as outcasts and I think it’s important to embrace our strength, beauty, pride, identity and confidence as we take on daily challenges as a mother and as a woman”.

louise shares her expert tips on how to shop

You don’t need to follow the trends to be stylish.  Fashion is what you buy and style is what you do with it.  I buy for my body shape and what makes me feel good.

Accessorise!  Any outfit can have a face lift with the right accessories.  I like to use hats wherever possible, statement earrings, bag/shoes/jackets or bright red lipstick.  It’s amazing how a really plain outfit can be spruced up with the simplest pieces.

Go shopping alone.  Trust your own style and buy what you think is right for you.  Friends can have opinions that aren’t always the right ones… You have different taste in men and food, you’ll probably have different taste in fashion too.

Use Instagram for fashion inspiration.  There are some brilliant fashion bloggers out there who I follow and get a lot of fashion inspiration from.  I spend more time looking at IG these days than I do flicking through a magazine, so find some fashion bloggers who have the same shape body as you and like their style and listen to what they say.

Flaunt it, because you’ve still got it! I believe in dressing for your body type and not hiding it, so make the most of your beautiful body! If you’re unsure of what to buy or haven’t got the confidence to try out new things alone, make an appointment with a personal stylist at a department store or any high street shop. Step out of your comfort zone and see how fabulous you can really look and feel!

IN THE KNOW

BERLIN

Planning a winter weekend away? Trendy, under two hours away and a journey back through time - whether you brush up on your history or hit up the burgeoning craft beer scene, be prepared… this prime party hotspot is open all hours. If you’re not feeling too fragile after your first Friday night, then start your Saturday with one of their famous walking tours. The free ones are the most informative, just pay your guide what you fancy at the end of the three hour session. Walk, learn and sneak in a sample of curry Wurst along the way. For a traditional lunch, book Borchardt in advance. Minimal, chic and steeped in history, Schnitzel is their secret weapon, so don’t leave without wolfing one down. Then make for Museum Island or hit up the shops… for a designer splurge you can’t beat The Corner and if you hit it on the right day you’ll see sale prices that will never make the shop floor back at home. Saunter slowly back to Soho House, where it’s easy to book a room (even as a non-member) and put your new purchases away, prop up the bar or pop down to the spa for a moody massage that will sort you out until your next Soho Mule.

if you like this, you will love…
