THE WORLD EXISTS TO BE PUT ON A POSTCARD

WHAT? Artists’ postcards from 1960 to now

WHERE? British Museum, Room 90, Great Russell St, London WC1B 3DG

No tickets required , free entry

WHEN? Now until 4th August

WHY GO? Who doesn't love an arty post card to sit resplendent on the mantlepiece?  It provides a creative moment, captures sentiment, provokes controversy or simply offers a pleasant antidote to e-mail correspondence. This extraordinary collection of over 300 postcard “works of art “ from some of the most famous names in history, goes on display for the first time and it couldn’t be more inspiring.

IN THE KNOW  Timely as digital art takes over, the postcard could become a rarity . So have a rummage, those old gallery invites might now be worth a penny or two!

The original invite for the first FREEZE exhibition organised by Damien Hirst, introducing the Young British Artists (YBAs) is a notable highlight.
