ROMEO AND JULIET

WHAT? The Royal Ballet

WHERE? The Royal Opera House, Bow Street, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9DD

WHEN? Until 11th June and in cinemas nationwide on 11th June

WHY GO? It’s the most romantic of all ballet classics and this is the most famous version. The renowned Kenneth MacMillan masterpiece with its stirring Prokofiev score stars a roster of Principal  ballerinas from Natalia Osipova to Lauren Cuthbertson as Juliet.

It never fails to delight a packed audience, since it was premiered in 1965 with Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn as Romeo and Juliet and has been performed over 400 times by the Royal Ballet, so understandably tickets are selling out like gold dust!

IN THE KNOW The pairing of Romeo and Juliet changes daily and is all about the chemistry between the two leads .  The cinema screening, which, let’s face it, will be the only way most of us will get to see it, stars Principal dancers Yasmine Naghdi and Matthew Ball.

No need to spell out the story, it always ends as it does, but get carried away with stunning choreography and exhilarating performances.
