FAITH RINGGOLD

WHAT?  FAITH RINGGOLD

WHERE? Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Gardens, London W2 3XA

WHEN? Now until 8th September

WHY GO? To appreciate why this talented octogenarian artist and activist has such a global following. This, her first exhibition in the UK, says it all, how she has embraced life to tell poignant stories through her art and awesome quilts that date back to the Eighties.  She followed a tradition passed on by her great-great grandmother, who was born into slavery and sewed quilts for plantation owners.  This epic collection of art and craftwork illustrates how progressive Harlem born Faith Ringgold was and is.  Challenging inequality everywhere, everything is such a joy to behold and it’s free!

IN THE KNOW?  The Serpentine Galleries have partnered up with MATCHESFASHION.com to celebrate this pioneering artist and have installed Faith Ringgold’s Reading Room at 5 Carlos Place, Mayfair, where visitors can see her children’s illustrations and hear about the books and music that have formed the context of her work - on display until 29th June.
