WHAT? The English National Ballet
WHERE? London Coliseum (after touring) St Martins Lane, London WC2N 4ES
WHEN? 16th -20th January 2019
WHY GO? It’s a real tear jerker, packed with romance, drama, tragedy and truly powerful love-duets, all magically danced to sweeping music by Massenet.
Manon, the doomed convent girl, is a classic and although it is perhaps not as well known as Swan Lake or Giselle, it is even more emotional and Alina Cojocaru is exquisite.
Plus… there are proper ballet costumes with tutus ‘a plenty’ to drool over .
IN THE KNOW
Based on the book Manon Lescaut by Prevost (also an opera), Manon is one of the most coveted roles in classical ballet and has been danced by all the greats from Antoinette Sibley, to Darcey Bussell and Natalia Osipova and Kenneth MacMillan’s choreography is legendary in the classical ballet repertoire.
