HAIR OF THE DOG

DALLOWAY TERRACE

16-22 Great Russell St, Fitzrovia, London WC1B 3NN

Truffle cheese fondue, Dorset crab on toast or blueberry buttermilk pancakes… you can guarantee the night before will be washed away in seconds with a quick swig of your DBM and a plate packed with the sort of indulgence you can only excuse at Christmas. A professional hangover takes planning, so book now, so your head isn’t banging until Boxing Day.

COVENT GARDEN

Make that Christmas celebration one to really remember with one of London’s latest lunch spots. Ultra cool or classic, you’ll be sitting, sipping champers, long after the last course has been whisked away.  Here are six of my Covent Garden faves.

knees up night out

So you’ve been left to sort the big night out… they’re going to behave badly, but you haven’t seen them for ages, so it’s worth getting barred for. Big table, bustling atmosphere, bearable bill…

Here are five of my favourites.

EMBER YARD W1

MISTLETOE AND WINE…

st leonardS ec2

Finding its feet in the former Eyre Brothers building, Andrew Clarke & Jackson Boxer bring a spacious new restaurant to Shoreditch. Fit for true foodies, expect raw smalls, fois gras custard and a Tamworth chop that could easily take on two of you. An impressive interior and plentiful portions make it a more than pleasant space for one of those longer than planned lunches that may just linger into the evening.

Move over Ellory, they’ve shut up shop in Broadway market and settled in with a sentimental new name in Shoreditch. Simplicity and flavour are at the forefront of the Leroy experience… start with the whipped cod’s roe and crisps (if you’re polite enough they’ll keep ‘em coming') then move onto the main event. You can’t beat their Christian Parra boudin noir, beetroot and blackberry… I’m even convinced it could convert some non-believers, then go large with a house sharer. Aylesbury duck breast, sweetcorn, girolles and spinach? Yes please. So what if it says it’s for two….

ralphs coffee & bar w1

You haven’t just got three bags, you’ve got five… and you didn’t even swop your stilettos for your sneakers. More to the point, you desperately need champagne. Move over Mayfair, you’re way too far away: Ralph’s you’ve saved my tootsies just in time… and those bubbles have been beckoning me since this morning. If you still haven’t discovered this sneaky little hotspot, then your life is about to change. Nestled just to the side of Regent Street’s Ralph Lauren store, find snazzy suits, woody details and a shiny finish. You may be just a stone’s throw away from Soho, but when you’re on the fizz you want the finest surroundings.

With World Champagne Day at the end of this week, why on earth wouldn’t you.

JEEZ… I NEED A DRINK…
